Have Faith by David Kautz is a musical comedy about four roommates: Faith, Axel, Lizzy, and Sandra. Faith is comforted by her predictable routine life and wishes for things to stay the same forever, but her three roommates want to branch out and explore the world. Unlike Faith, they struggle to find meaning in a life that is confined by routines and deadlines, and they yearn for change. The lighting was used to give insight into the characters’ feelings and to support their underlying emotions. This story is rooted in realism, and lighting for the spoken sections stayed in that realistic realm. However, during the songs, the lighting was able to step outside of the world of realism, and more abstract colors and angles were used in order to better support the emotions of the characters. Each of the characters feels slightly different about their life and living situation, and the lighting for each of their solo moments reflected that.
